Hiding Text Fields

Caution: To save your time and avoid the frustration of entering the wrong code, never use a
passcode that is easier to guess than the password itself. For example,
a valid password for a user named “Chronos” is “0123456789”. If
your passcode is “1234”, a thief (or anyone who has access to your computer)
could get an easy guess to the password by trying random numbers and letters.
A more secure solution is to pick a passcode that is equal to or greater in length than
the password itself.

We make use of two kinds of hidden text fields: Password Fields and X-Fields. A X-Field is any field
which begins with a letter of the alphabet. Most major web browsers will show these fields as dotted underlines
when a user is hovering their mouse over the field. To hide these fields, use the show/hide options in the
options bar.

Before you edit a field, click anywhere outside of the field to disable any
hiding-related options. If the field is empty, simply hover over the
field until your mouse hovers over the dotted underline. If the dotted underline is colored
blue, click the field, the field is hidden. You may unhide it later by clicking the field again.
You may also unhide a password field by right-clicking the password field or hovering over the dotted underline until the
option to unhide the field is displayed.

Double-clicking the password field unhides it without placing the mouse cursor over the field. Simply double-click.

Increasing the size of Password Fields

Normally, the maximum size of a password field is 2 KB. However, some web browsers and
password fields allow the size to be increased, as follows:

Internet Explorer 8: If the size of a password field exceeds the standard size, click the Field
properties button, and use the Size option to increase the width. The keyboard shortcut
may also be used, however, the Change Width property is not available.

Netscape 7 & earlier versions: If the size of a password field exceeds the standard size,
click the icon in the field that looks like an arrow at the right of the Password field.

This is a simple application which allows you to get the password of hidden text fields.
This application contains 1 login and will, therefore, only retrieve the name of the password-field.
[Clicking on “Scan” will open the actual PassShow application]
How to use PassShow for passwords:
This application requires that you start PassShow, after clicking on it, and enter the name of your secret question. (You can’t give this name here!) The name of your secret question must match a string in your question file.
Clicking on “Try again” will start a program, which may ask you questions to verify, that you are the right user. Also the non-matching question number, will be shown to you.
The answers to these questions will be stored in your personal profile on the website.
If you want to start this program, enter the text “hELp! Can’t check my password with PassShow” as test-test.
After you click on the button “Scan”, PassShow will start and will immediately display the name of the password-field which is used as test-test

You can create your own question file. Just type the desired name for your file and enter the text of your secret question for each question.

Go to some website, enter your username and password, then click the “Show password” button, and passShow will retrieve it
