The users of AutoCAD can make their own objects. In addition, they can load blocks of drawings created in other CAD programs, as well as share objects with other users. AutoCAD also provides tools to communicate with other CAD software and to connect to other CAD databases.
Users of AutoCAD have a choice of drawing views, called pages. The pages that appear when the user starts a new drawing depend on the drawing mode the user selects in the Program dialog box. A drawing with no view is called a freehand drawing.
To start a new drawing, in the Program dialog box, choose Edit Drawing. A new drawing is loaded. You can choose from a list of drawing templates, and then edit the template as you wish.
The application is modular, allowing you to work with individual modules. Each module is called a tab in the Program dialog box. You can move to a different tab, and see the available commands, by clicking on the tabs.
In the Modules dialog box, you can define modules and drag them to a page in the drawing, or delete them.
AutoCAD can create and edit graphs and charts. A graph is an arrangement of points, lines, and other geometric objects used to visualize information. A chart is a graph or diagram used to present information visually.

The most important thing to remember about the My Drawing window is that it’s not the only drawing that AutoCAD supports. You’ll see other files and windows as you work in AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT. If you work with a drawing that has been opened or closed, or a file that you’ve saved, you’ll see that window again when you reopen the drawing or open a file.

When you open a new drawing, you’re ready to start working. If you’re using AutoCAD, the default workspace is Drawings or drawing area 1 (as shown in Figure 17-5.
