alpha dog is a look into the world of fraternity hazing and the consequences of drinking too much. but it’s a completely fictionalized account of a true story. there are no fraternities in the film. the characters in the film are all high school students with no known ties to each other. the character of johnny truelove is based on a real life boy who attended the same school as anton yelchin, who plays zach mazursky.
the story is inspired by real life events. it’s about a kidnapping that is meant to be a “fun” experience but turns into something much more serious. it’s about fraternities in high school trying to get pledges through physical and mental abuse. in a real life situation, several of the fraternity brothers died. it’s a much darker story than the movie version, which is a lot of fun, but it’s just not realistic. still, a good movie.
pretty much what you would expect from a movie about frat boys, alpha dog (2006) is an entertaining but superficial film in its own right and a much better movie than the trailer let on. the frat house and characters are just as absurd as the high school one’s in animal house. this was made by the same director as the notebook and she’s so lovely, so that is no real surprise, but still it’s a good movie. emile hirsch is solid as the guy who gets his frat brothers into trouble and if you’re looking for that kind of thing, this is the movie for you.
alpha dog (2006) has a lot going for it: a solid cast, a fun premise and an inspiring message. that’s about it though, which isn’t a bad thing, as it’s a pretty light, fun-as-hell experience. it’s all about the laughs and sex and drinking. you can tell that this was not a big budget movie. the entire thing is shot in an abandoned house and there are no extras in the background. the only thing i would change is to add some more “heart” to the film, and a little more depth to the characters, as i found the characters a little flat, but that’s a minor quibble.
perhaps you have been wondering why other men get more attracted glances from the opposite sexes than you when you thought that there’s nothing really that much difference between them and you especially if you’d talk about physical appearances. and because you worry too much about this concern, you probably have splurged and treat yourself to gigantic makeovers just to make sure you won’t be left behind in terms of alpha male visual appearance or even aiming to outdo this lucky male species around. this action of yours could bring your aura a difference and could elevate your charm into a higher level but it seems this is not entirely enough. those lucky guys are still getting those glances from the dreamy eyes of many women. what could be those alpha males possess that you don’t
alpha dog (2006): dir: nick cassevettes / cast: emile hirsch, shawn hatosy, justin timberlake, ben foster, anton yelchin: very depressing story of a drug deal gone wrong and the consequences upon the innocent. a kidnap victim sees his circumstance as a vacation due to the nature of his captures. although well paced the solution may not be the most satisfactory. director nick cassevettes shoots this like a live documentary, which may be the point since this is based on true events. cassevettes previously made the notebook as well as a despicable piece of junk called she’s so lovely. emile hirsch plays the drug leader responsible for the kidnapping due to a confrontation with someone else. his actions will have him on the run with possible death penalty consequences.
i really do like this movie, but i get so sick of these new movies where the male lead is just a generic jock or a rich white guy. the actress playing the female lead is fine, but it’s so overplayed. most of the time they’re just in a room making out or they’re just a straight pair of actors. it’s the same thing in every movie. i want to see the characters, not just actors playing the parts.
