Scripting in AutoCAD can be compared to programming in Java, Python, or BASIC. It is most similar to JavaScript, a scripting language. There are some differences between AutoLISP and Visual LISP. There are two ways to program AutoCAD using Visual LISP:
Native Visual LISP: one uses a native Visual LISP compiler in AutoCAD and compiles it using the Visual LISP compiler. This uses a different file to compile the object code than does a second Visual LISP compiler embedded in the AutoCAD IDE.
Embedded Visual LISP: uses an embedded Visual LISP compiler in the AutoCAD IDE. This uses a single file to compile the object code, and includes the generated Visual LISP class files in the AutoCAD application, so that the AutoCAD application can use the compiled code.
