Early development
In the late 1960s, the MIT CAD group was able to create a first interactive drawing and modeling system. In January 1970, the first Macintosh, as an internal development project, was running on a terminal which was connected to an internal computer and a Perkin-Elmer graphics system. The Macintosh never saw the light of day. After a few years in development, it would be almost 20 years before the first commercial CAD product was launched.

Autodesk started developing CAD programs around 1970. In the beginning, it only dealt with simple programs. Most CAD software today was created between 1980 and 1990. Initially, Autodesk only developed a generic CAD program, from which other companies could take out the necessary tools. The company then approached a number of companies to license the technology. One of these was the company that would become Cadsoft. The other companies were ETA-Plastics, with its 3D-CAD system, Polaroid, with its Polymorph program and 3D planning system, and – at that time – only available for the big mainframes – the Air Traffic Computer Network, later to be renamed FAAA/FASA. The idea behind this initial approach was that the CAD industry would be relatively small in size with few major players. This week’s Top 5 Green Albums of the Week
This week, I’ve been listening to a lot of music, but with a slight bit of a musical turn as I’ve been digging into the Earthship Records music collection. There are a lot of good hip hop and R&B releases out right now, so if you haven’t checked them out, I highly suggest you do. However, we’ve got a real treat this week, so I’ve decided to take a swing at trying to recommend some green-oriented music.
My criteria for these selections has a little more weight than just picking the most environmentally-friendly releases, but I did take that into consideration. I’ve tried to pick albums that demonstrate that sustainable practices do not have to be a pain in the ass to get the product to the market. If you’ve got a product that is good for the environment, let’s do it the right way.Q:
