Three American journalists who witnessed the atrocities in Sudan must make a choice: return home or stay to help locals who are faced with . raging civil war.
Ulrika Dorn, Jennifer Yu and John Heder, American TV correspondents based in Sudan, report their experiences only in letters, because they are not ready to risk their lives. Their testimonies are noteworthy:
â€œ… We saw hundreds of dead bodies crawling in X2. Then they found a few more lying 300 feet away. People were torn to pieces. Many screamed, looking at the sky, many were naked, like newborns, and … blood flooded them.
… the people in X2 were stripped naked and simply put on display. Some were dead: … their bodies lay in the clearing, or at least pressed against each other. There were many children, but.. there were so many corpses and their clothes around.. we could not distinguish whether there were children among them.. undressed or not… We saw all this from the trees that grew next to us… I saw how. some women shared their dead children. There were about 30,000 corpses in the clearing, but it was still raining over them, and .. it was hard to see if there were .. children among them.
Just two days after the incident, on July 23, it became known about the death of one and a half thousand demonstrators near the parliament building in Nigeria. The cause of death was the contents of a fire extinguisher spilled on them. The authorities reacted immediately: the demonstrators were brutally dispersed, the court sentenced three leaders of the protest to death, and two days later opened fire on the demonstrators again.
â€œThe events that we witnessed on July 23 [reported by Ulrika Doren] are among the most terrible in the entire existence of our country. It all started with protests that went on for three years despite numerous warnings. There were only a few people in the first action.
