i think the problem is that you are using the kenwood kpg-20d software which was written for windows xp. this software does not support windows 7 and 8. i believe the windows 7 drivers are missing the necessary java libraries. however, there is another version of the kpg-20d software which is compatible with windows 7 and 8 called kpg-20d v4.21. you can download this version from the kenwood website.

i am happy to help you, but if you download the kpg-20d v4.21 from the kenwood site, you will not be able to use the kenwood kpg-56d software. you will need to use the kenwood kpg-56d v4.22 which is listed in the software section of the .

the first kpg-56d software is based on the kpg-20d programming software. the second version is based on the kenwood kpg-67d programming software. the following table may not match perfectly with the two versions, because the second version was written a lot later.
the tk-809 is a great sounding radio, but the programming section can be a little tricky, partly because its quite old – i mention this because the programming of the kenwood kpg-20d application is broadly the same, but the kpg-20d software will be more specific to the radio you buy – the newer versions of the software have different options, and the newer kenwood tk-809 radios (t4) need some specific codes to achieve certain things. this kenwood tk-809 programming guide is a sort of general guide, whereas the kpg-20d software i mention is specific to the radio, however if i have a specific issue about the tk-809 programming then the kpg-20d software may not have all the correct options.
the programmer with the most experience will know what to do! i certainly cannot cover all the options for the radio, i will just do a basic overview. the kenwood kpg-20d gives a chance for you to program many of the options you have with the radio – i can only give an example of the way its done. many of the options are similar to the kenwood ptt-press scripts. i must point out that the kenwood kpg-20d has a bit of a learning curve to it – particularly with respect to the complex options.
