Jab Harry Met Sejal is a bad film and is better to stay at the theatres. It is also a tedious film to watch at home. The story was perhaps forced and some of the twists are somewhat contrived. There are dull portions to the film and unlike most Imtiaz Alis films its not enjoyable. The film is certainly worth watching if your a fan of Imtiaz Alis previous films. But, you wouldnt want to go out of your way to watch this film.
Jab Harry Met Sejal is a tired, predictable product with some good performances. There is no doubt that Atul Kulkarni is a talented actor, and he reminds us of his talent in other key performances in films like Wanted and Badlapur.
The first half of the film moves at a brisk pace. The characterisation is done well. There are moments of heartbreak and laughter. The film contains some good writing and has moments of fun. The highlight of the film is a scene in the Prague bar where Sejal is surrounded by the character men. The scene in the hospital, where Harry confronts Sejal is also well written. There are some emotional moments and the humour is perfectly timed. The action sequences and settings are top-notch. But they unfortunately are interspersed with a lot of low-quality music and over-the-top sound effects. These moments dull the comedy scenes and make the film rather boring. The film does end on a sentimental note and its all tied up in a bow for the audience. And that’s a shame.
JAB HARRY MET SEJAL is the Imtiaz Alis comeback since the box office success of LOCAL BOY, which also stars Anushka Shetty. The makers then decided to pair Harry with Sejal, which according to me, was a wrong decision. Harry and Sejal are perfect for each other and if they were to team up in a film, it would have been a perfect mash-up.
