Due to many combinations of colors and materials and no means of checking the images produced, TWIST makes no warranty that the quality will be consistently good. However, a number of events are controlled and TWIST is fully capable of displaying the image you request.
TWIST is free and is freeware. You can copy it, share it, and run it as you like. You can even use TWIST as a screensaver. You can’t steal it or use it commercially.
In the original version TWIST was included as an “always running” screensaver. It was written because the other screensavers available (such as Vox, NewSM, etc.) are “loosely” connected to a time system (for instance each screensaver is programmed to start playing at 5:59 AM or 12:00 AM). The “always running” behavior of the screen savers allowed their settings to be altered from time to time and that of TWIST by the user. Also, the “always running” property of the screen savers prevented their settings from being altered by Group Policy.
TWIST has no “loosely connected” time system. It is contained with the image and has a fixed start and stop time.
TWIST is still “always running” and can therefore be set to run at any time. You can also still play TWIST as a “loosely connected” screensaver.
The original version of TWIST took a fairly long time to ray trace (5 hours) so I have removed the “always running” behavior and reduced the time it takes by a factor of 10. The result is that TWIST takes only five minutes to ray trace an image and this makes TWIST a good screensaver. You can use TWIST this way or you can take a few minutes and set
