What is an Action RPG?
It is one of the major genres of RPGs, along with JRPGs. Action RPGs are also known as dungeon-crawlers. The action elements in action RPGs are a result of action and tactical choices being an integral part of the gameplay. One plays as a character fighting against monsters through various game elements. As the enemy attacks, the player will determine the best course of action, and the tempo of the battle will increase the more the player performs the correct action. The action elements, while present, are not the primary focus of an action RPG. Instead, the action elements are secondary to the exploration, which is the primary focus. The “RPG” in this genre originates from the Japanese RPG, which was the early Japanese form of games which focused primarily on the role-playing elements of the game.
Tarnished Knights is the first game that I have an opportunity to make for the new console platform. It is one of the projects where I was able to truly utilize a lot of the new features that you can only find in Nintendo’s new console, such as the split-screen which allows for cooperative gameplay.
There’s another unique feature that I would like to put in, but there’s a problem that needs to be solved before I can implement that. It’s a feature that I like and I am working on personally.
Question. I have read somewhere that Tarnished Knights has RPG elements. There’s a part in the story that states that the Land of Elden is a place where the gods came from. But it seems that the people who lived in the Land of Elden in the beginning were a race of dwarfs. Does this mean that the Land of Elden was formed from the aftermath of a massive collision between Earth and the Planet Elden?
I don’t think so. According to the myth, the people who lived on this land were the inheritors of the Planet Elden (the planet that has collided with Earth). In the myth, it is said that the Planet Elden will no longer be a planet, but an asteroid. These people were descendants of the people of Planet Elden.
Question. The game has a feature of a timeless world. With a limitless area, the game has a vastness that is unlike any other 3D game. I was hoping to utilize the high-resolution graphics in the game to be able to create a vast world.
