It’s your turn to play as a fresh recruit of the Edgewatch, the newest division of Absalom’s city watch. Your assignment: bust up the fair and bust out villains. You’ll solve crimes and get paid. If there is any pay, that is, because the festival has attracted not only cutpurses and vandals, but also the poisoner, the kidnapper, the traitor, and perhaps even a serial killer, and the fair has held all this up from justice. While your teammates are busy, you’ll visit the fair’s many vendors and, if you’re lucky, get a chance to pick up some combat skills in return for doing your job well. Most of the crime is simple. You deal with it. You solve the case. You deliver justice. If the villains can make good on their threat of pulling off some great big heist–or worse, eliminate a wanted fugitive–you could receive special training and equipment to make the city watch a powerful force to be reckoned with. By solving a series of crimes against the law and gathering clues, the Agents of Edgewatch will uncover the villain’s true motive, discover the plan, foil the heist, and make a name for themselves in the process. CHAPTER 1: The Precipice Fair
The city watch’s offices were warm and dim, dim enough to make the men behind the desk look like an undulating forest of flickering fish.
The new recruit was good at paperwork. He sighed as he signed the last page and made his way through the maze of desks down the hallway to the washroom. Even though most of the other newbies hadn’t even been in yet, the place was quiet enough that he could get away with wearing his new hat.
He found the washroom and pulled on the chain. It was so new he was still getting used to the little keypad to the right of the door. It was a dim light and his knuckles went white as he spun the dial.
