What AutoCAD provides

GUI scripting

The program has been known to offer very little in the way of GUI scripting (GSoC project), although some have noted the appearance of a Microsoft VB-like language under Edit → Autodesk → Visual Scripting Language (since AutoCAD 2007), and some scripting language under Edit → Autodesk → Other Visual Scripting Languages (since AutoCAD 2012) which compiles to VBScript.

Unlike some other CAD systems, Autodesk was late to start offering support for Javascript, and has never added support for scripting Javascript. As a result, many addon and automation scripts are written in VBScript, which is a Microsoft proprietary language.

With Markup Import, an existing drawing can be imported into the software, allowing you to add comments and questions to the original design, and forward this to an external party for response. The external party can choose to return a response through the web or via a separate electronic file, which is then incorporated into your original drawing. Markup Assist is a recently added feature to make your drawings accessible to people with different capabilities. It allows drawings to be sent to people who have different capabilities than the original author, such as a senior designer who is not comfortable with the technical details of the CAD application or a customer who may only be able to use the software in certain ways. Using the Markup Assistant dialog box, you can add comments and markups to drawings, then upload the edited files to your CAD software via the internet or USB memory stick.
