6. after the installation process is complete, the status bar displays the message that the software is installed. the status bar will disappear after a couple of moments and reappear when the software loads (figure 6).

10. click install and the software loads. it will be installed to the network in a few seconds. the status bar will disappear and reappear as the software loads (figure 8) and the service center portal opens up. the portal is where users can manage everything related to their license.

11. the portal will present two options. you can refresh your software (preferred) or go to your license/software detail page. to refresh your software, simply click refresh on the main menu bar (figure 9)

13. refresh will complete and the status bar will update to ‘software load in progress’. when the refresh is complete, the software should be refreshed and ready to use for up to two months (figure 11).

15. the x431 comes with a downloadable demo and demonstration program. using the demo will give you a unique opportunity to experience the software and see how it works. to access the demo you need to log into the portal using your existing login details and you will be asked to download the demo and launch the software (figure 13)

16. the demos software will launch and will load the demonstration screens. the demonstration screens allow you to set up the demo, configure your network settings, install the program, turn off the demonstration software, and return back to the portal when ready.

for example, a student of mine had created an account with the solidworks software on his or her school machine. the school and the professor had approved and paid for the software, and installed it on the student’s school computers. the professor had created an account with the software that was on the solidworks computer. when the school year came to a close, the student needed to change over to a software license that was a commercial license, and the software was purchased by the school. so the student had to change over to a different version of the software. the new version of the software was a license that was on the school’s solidworks computer.

we are going to change the update_serial value from the server so you can use it as a parameter in the update command. we need to understand how the launch serial works. you can see the serial number of the launch in the json object from the http request. we will use this serial number to modify the serial.
9. the serial number is the value to enter in the x431_product_groups.xml file. the serial number can be found on the label on the back of the x431. it is assigned to a product group and specific product group.
the device will download firmware updates from other, third-party, hosts, for example: the device will, after initialization, search for updates on the host . the device will try to download firmware updates from the host . the device will use curl or other http or ftp client library to download firmware updates from the host .
the device will, after initialization, start an auto-update thread, which will scan for new firmware updates. the firmware update will be installed, provided that the current firmware version matches the one provided in the update.
