to save space, the firmware does not copy the page count eeprom when the printer is reset. instead, the page count eeprom is cleared. this means that the page count eeprom needs to be reset before the page count can be used. to reset the page count eeprom, the printer must have been set up for printing. [brian] decided to try and see what would happen if he reset the printer while it was printing.
sure enough, it worked. since the printer was reset while printing, it appeared to have made a new configuration eeprom with the same contents as the old eeprom. thus, [brian] was able to access the old eeprom and rewrite it to the new eeprom, restoring the page count to a previously set value. at this point, [brian] was free to print. since [brian] had no idea what the page count settings were, [brian] zeroed them all out, and replaced the toner cartridge with a known good replacement cartridge. he was able to successfully print a document with the known good cartridge and the page count set back to zero.
i have that exact same printer! i have a samsung ml-2160 that has been stuck at 53 pages per minute for a month now. i bought this printer 3 years ago and i have had to replace the toner cartridge twice. i have had to replace the drum once. the first time i replaced the drum, the printer got stuck at 3 pages per minute and i tried to remove the drum and was unsuccessful in doing so. i called samsung customer service and they told me to remove the cartridge and the drum and then put the drum back in. after that, my printer worked normally. but when i tried to replace the drum again, i was unsuccessful in removing the drum and i had to replace the printer. i also replaced the drum and i was able to print at 57 pages per minute. the problem is that after the drum is replaced, the printer usually runs out of ink and i have to replace the cartridge again. it is really inconvenient to have to replace the toner every two months.
i have a samsung clp 326 which i have the same problem with. the front casing has four sets of four spring loaded contacts. the instructions i have read say to remove the casing and short the contacts. i have used a soldering iron to make a 4cm by 4cm square of solder on the contacts. the hole underneath is not covered with a solder mask so i can see the contacts underneath. i have been successful in removing the casing and shorting the contacts. i have not yet managed to put the solder back on. i need help. can anybody help me. i am not very good with soldering.
the toner cartridge for the samsung ml-2160 has a chip in it, that is used to set the page count. i have a bus pirate that has a series of mikrobus card readers. this is the best way to test it. it also works on the ml-2160.
my printer wont reset. it doesnt change the counter. i have no idea why. i tried so much. i changed all the usual settings. my printer has a led on the right, showing a counter. when you first start the printer, it counts the pages of the first page, and the led is off. after you press the reset button, it counts the pages of the first page, and the led is on. after the first reset, the led doesnt change. the led just keeps on flashing. a new led is attached with a small piece of tape. but the counter is still not resetted. i dont know whats wrong. i tryed so many settings. anyone has a clue?
i used a t4c sm100. after a toner reset, the led doesnt change. after that i have changed every setting in the printer, but it wont change the led. i dont know if its the chip or the printer. because the printer works fine with the original chip. i only changed the chip because the printer wouldnt reset.
