yes, it’s 20 years ago, but “windows” should still refer to the windows operating system family. but this is just one more example of how linux and open source community are seeing the benefits of working together. microsoft knows they have to play well with others to survive in today’s market.

and so i did. i got the right server, and my setup on the workstation side was simple (if you can call it that). i just installed the latest windows 7 professional 64-bit and installed the dell poweredge r710i firmware.

windows nt was the first version to move to a graphical interface. prior to this time, windows was available in a variety of text-based interfaces such as dos and windows 3.x. nt was available in multiple editions, but only the professional edition (windows nt 3.5) was bundled with a cd-rom. windows nt 3.5 was a major update over windows nt 3.1 (windows nt 3.1 was bundled with the os/2 2.x os) and windows nt 3.0 (windows nt 3.0 was bundled with windows 95 1.x).
