South Florida Fashion Academy Hosts Miami Dolphins & Miami Hurricanes Official Barber, Steven Rivera, To Educate Barbering Students About Industry Insider Tips and What to Expect As A Barber Entrepreneur

As South Florida Fashion Academy continues to expand its educational programming for middle and high school students to include barbering and entrepreneurship programs and classes at the academy’s 15,000 sq. ft. campus located at 4850 North State Road 7, Suite G109, Lauderdale Lakes, FL 33319, the academy recently hosted Miami Dolphins & Miami Hurricanes Official Barber, Steven Rivera, to speak to the academy’s barbering students about how to develop a successful career in the industry Barbering Careers and Entrepreneurship to Young Black Men in South Florida.
Within SF/FA’s innovative barber program teaching students in 8th through 12th grades, licensed barbers and other professionals are developing the program to educate and celebrate the craftsmanship and creativity of the barbering industry. “Here in South Florida, barbering offers a constructive and creative outlet and career path for many of our bright, creative young Black male students so that they can effectively graduate SF/FA with their high school diploma and their barbering license.
“Barbering has become a cultural staple led by innovative Black barbers from across Broward County,” McGill said. SF/FA is proud to have strategic partnerships with local barber professionals from around South Florida who are dominating the industry. “Our barbering program features talented local barber entrepreneurs as well as Steven Rivera, who is the official barber for the Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes.

In addition, SF/FA’s Barber program offers young students more than just a skillset– It empowers them with core principles, a sense of purpose, mentorship and inspiration while helping them create a five year career plan for their future: “In our barber program, students learn the core techniques of cutting, styling and hair care health for both men and women, but we go far beyond that. Our program teaches the business of barbering and how to find purpose and passion in a barbering career. Overall, we’re proud that the SF/FA program encompasses some of the region’s youngest and brightest Black men who are equally ambitious and dedicated to excelling in their chosen field,” McGill said.
Barbering students at SF/FA dedicate 600 hours in the program to learn and master the trade of barbering, which is required to earn the state of Florida’s restricted barber license. “During this extensive barbering program, our students learn about Florida barbering laws and rules, safety, sanitation, sterilization, hair structure, cutting, cleansing, shaving, and beard and mustache trimming,” McGill said.
McGill and her SF/FA team of educators hosted an educational barbering panel discussion and Q&A with top barbering professionals to discuss a variety of topics about the industry in an effort to give SF/FA students insightful knowledge that they can use to enter the barbering profession upon graduating.
